Gold prices surged to a record high on Tuesday, rising 0.5% in spot trading to $4,467.66 an ounce, after hitting a record high of $4,469.52 earlier in the session. US gold futures for February delivery rose 0.74% to $4,502.30 an ounce. Silver rose 0.19% to $69.15 an ounce, reaching an all-time high of $69.44 on Monday. Gold has risen 70% since the start of the year, surpassing the $4,400 level for the first time on Monday, while silver has risen 140% since the start of the year, outperforming gold and approaching the $70 level in the session.
