Algeria Leads Gas Suppliers to Europe

Algeria led the growth of the European Union's natural gas imports via pipelines during the first half of 2026, having increased its exports to both Spain and Italy, contributing to a 3% year-on-year increase in the total imports of the European bloc to reach 73 billion cubic meters, compared to 71 billion cubic meters during the same period in 2025, according to a report issued by the Energy Research Unit. Data showed that Algeria's pipeline exports to Spain rose by 13% during the first six months of the current year, while supplies to Italy increased by 4% compared to the same period last year, making Algeria the main driver of gas flow growth to the European market.
