Algerian shale gas: Beyond rent and fears, thinking about the resource through competence

In this contribution addressed to Eco Times, geophysicist Badrezzamane Hedjazi invites to move beyond the simple logic of rent to approach shale gas through the lens of competitiveness. Indeed, in the face of the inevitable decline of conventional deposits, this potential represents a major growth lever, too often blocked by poorly framed environmental arbitrations. While Algeria holds the 3rd largest global potential, Mr. Hedjazi believes that the real economic challenge lies not in the volume of reserves, but in the valorization of local human capital.
