Electricity demand reaches a new historical peak of 21,828 megawatts

The demand for electrical energy across the country recorded a new record peak of 21,828 megawatts today, Wednesday, amid the ongoing heatwave affecting the country during the summer of 2026, accompanied by rising humidity levels across several provinces, according to a statement from the Ministry of Energy and Renewable Energies. The ministry reported that this peak was recorded by SONELGAZ through its branch SONELGAZ-Electricity Transmission and system operator at 14:30, marking the fifth record peak in electricity demand recorded during the summer of 2026.
