Tizi Ouzou expects to harvest more than 5800 quintals of cork in 2026

The Forestry Directorate of Tizi Ouzou province expects to harvest about 5821 quintals of cork in 2026, a significant increase compared to the last season which recorded a production of 4029 quintals, as part of the return to the 'organized quotas' system aimed at stabilizing annual production at around 5000 quintals. Hamid Qoussem, the cork file manager at the Forestry Directorate, stated to the Algerian News Agency that the anticipated harvesting process, set to begin in the coming days, will cover 20 forest districts distributed across 12 forests in the province, with the regional rural engineering company 'Djurdjura' responsible for executing the operation, including employing seasonal labor, while harvesting workshops will be established after successful testing.
