Gold prices fell on Friday under pressure from profit-taking, as investors await the U.S. Federal Reserve's stance on interest rates, with expectations of keeping them unchanged during September. The price of gold in spot transactions decreased by 0.5 percent to $4,330.37 per ounce, while U.S. gold futures for December delivery fell by 0.8 percent to $4,386.80. Gold had recorded its highest level since June 5 yesterday before declining by 1.3 percent, thus erasing its gains made during the week. In other precious metals markets, silver fell in transactions.

Oil prices recorded a slight increase today, Friday. Brent crude futures rose by nine cents, or 0.1 percent, to reach $87.16 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate crude futures increased by four cents to $81.29 per barrel. Both contracts fell by more than 2 percent in the previous session, giving up part of the gains they had made after six consecutive sessions of increases for Brent and five sessions for West Texas Intermediate, but they are still on track for weekly gains of about four percent.
