Natural gas continued to dominate the electricity generation mix in Tunisia during 2025, with rising demand, amid a decline in the share of clean energy sources, emphasizing that the Transmed pipeline plays a pivotal role in securing Tunisia's natural gas needs, as it is the main artery for transporting Algerian gas to Italian markets through Tunisian territory. The pipeline, which has been operational since 1983, extends over 1,025 miles, supported by an export capacity of 34 billion cubic meters (equivalent to about 1.2 trillion cubic feet) annually.
