Brent crude futures dropped by $4.21, equivalent to 5.1 percent, settling at $78.96 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate crude fell by $4.70, equivalent to 5.8 percent, recording $76.05. Brent contracts saw their lowest close since March 2, while U.S. crude prices were at their lowest closing level since the fourth of the same month.
