Changes at the Helm of Banks and the Return of the CEO Position
The appointments included, in phases, the National Bank, the External Bank, and the National Savings and Reserve Fund, aiming for unified leadership and faster decisions, as well as reducing decision-making timelines. The Ministry of Finance is opening a new chapter in the management of public banks, after it began adopting the position of CEO instead of General Manager and Chairman of the Board in banks, marking the first change of its kind in the governance model within public banking institutions in 5 years, since 2021. This transformation has so far included the appointment of Mustafa Ben Alqama as CEO of the Algerian National Bank, Hosni Ben Abbas as CEO of the Algerian External Bank, and Kahina Bougdir as CEO of the National Savings and Reserve Fund.
