Reduction of electricity consumption by 50% in seawater desalination facilities
The Algerian company for water desalination, a subsidiary of SONATRACH, has begun implementing a new approach to improve energy efficiency in seawater desalination facilities by gradually integrating advanced technologies that allow for a reduction in electricity consumption by between 40 and 50 percent. The assistant to the CEO in charge of communication, Mouloud Hachlaf, revealed in a statement to 'APS' that this approach is primarily based on adopting pressure exchange technology, known as energy recoverers, which allows for the recovery of pressure generated during various stages of the desalination process and converting it into reusable energy, given that seawater desalination is one of the most energy-consuming activities.
