Algeria aims to increase its solar and renewable energy capacity to 15 gigawatts by 2035, having already begun implementing an initial program to develop 3.2 gigawatts through the launch of up to 20 utility-scale projects distributed across 12 provinces. These steps come to meet the growing local demand, reduce carbon emissions, and free up larger quantities of natural gas for export, amid sector assurances that achieving these goals requires accelerating investments and transitioning to an Independent Power Producers (IPP) model to open the market to the private sector and global companies.
