By the Numbers: The Phosphate and Fertilizer Sectors as a New Economic Lever

Algeria is heading towards achieving a qualitative leap in the phosphate and fertilizer sector by raising production capacity to about 12 million tons annually, compared to a current capacity ranging between 5 and 7 million tons, at a time when national market needs do not exceed between 200 and 300 thousand tons only, allowing for a large surplus to be directed towards export and enhancing revenues outside hydrocarbons. Economic development expert Dr. Abdel Rahman Hadef explained during his appearance on the program 'Guest of the Morning' on the first radio channel that the 'Blad El Hadba' mine represents one of the main pillars of this transformation, with huge reserves ranging between one billion and two billion tons, with official directives to accelerate its entry into the exploitation phase and reach the export stage by March 2027.
