Trump threatens to cut trade with Spain after refusal to use its bases against Iran
U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to impose a complete trade ban on Spain and cut all trade relations with it, following the Spanish government's refusal to allow the U.S. military to use the Rota and Morón bases for operations related to strikes on Iran, in an unprecedented escalation between the two NATO ally countries. Trump stated during his meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz at the White House that Spain's position is 'very bad,' announcing that he asked Treasury Secretary Scott Pruitt to 'stop all dealings' with it. He added: 'We will cut all trade relations with Spain. We do not want any relationship with it,' emphasizing that he has 'the right to stop all business related to Spain and impose a ban' if he sees fit.
