Messaad

The wilaya of Messaad is an Algerian wilaya created in November 2025, carved from Djelfa Province. Messaad, known as Castellum Dimmidi in Roman times, was a fortress along the Limes Tripolitanus, the southern border of the province of Numidia. It hosted a Roman garrison from roughly 198 to 240 AD. The city has a population of nearly 120,000 inhabitants and is famous for the traditional louabri burnous made from camel wool.
