The wilaya of Oum El Bouaghi is an Algerian wilaya, created from the 1974 administrative division when it was part of the former department of Constantine. Historically, it is part of the Chaoui region along with the wilaya of Batna and the wilaya of Khenchela. Unlike these two latter wilayas which constitute the Aurès mountains, the wilaya of Oum El Bouaghi is at the heart of the plains Chaoui culture.
