For Aïd el-Adha 2026, Algeria is facing an extremely sensitive situation where sheep are gradually becoming inaccessible for a significant part.
The Minister of Labor, Employment and Social Security, Abdelhak Sayhi, confirmed that enhancing support for farmers and expanding their participation in the social security system is a national priority, as part of the state's approach to establishing social justice and supporting food security. The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries, Yassine Walid, announced the adoption of precise measures to track and monitor imported sacrificial animals at various stages of quarantine, transport, and distribution, in preparation for Eid al-Adha, confirming the acquisition of 1.2 million electronic tags and mobile reading devices to ensure full oversight of the imported herd.
Skikda Port received a ship loaded with 13,300 heads of imported sheep intended for Eid al-Adha this Saturday morning, as part of efforts to support the national market with sacrificial animals and improve supply availability during the occasion.
