The African Import-Export Bank Afreximbank announced last Monday the unlocking of a facility of 200 million dollars aimed at supporting the execution of a large-scale oil and gas contract in the Hassi Bir Rekaiz field, in Algeria. He adds that ...

Algerian shale gas: Beyond rent and fears, thinking about the resource through competence

In this contribution addressed to Eco Times, geophysicist Badrezzamane Hedjazi invites to move beyond the simple logic of rent to approach shale gas through the lens of competitiveness. Indeed, in the face of the inevitable decline of conventional deposits, this potential represents a major growth lever, too often blocked by poorly framed environmental arbitrations. While Algeria holds the 3rd largest global potential, Mr. Hedjazi believes that the real economic challenge lies not in the volume of reserves, but in the valorization of local human capital.

Prevention of forest fires: The role of rural land management

To sustainably extinguish the threat, reflection is necessary. In addition to classic prevention actions and the mobilization of resources and the institutional organization required for active intervention, the fight against fires also demands beneficial transformations in the rural world, particularly in mountainous areas. Undoubtedly, rural exodus to cities – during various periods of post-independence Algeria – has left behind a complex legacy, that of land encumbered by undivided ownership and the absence of clear property titles. Due to the lack of...
