Stellantis, the global automotive group, announced the launch of a new expansion project at the Fiat plant in Tafaroui, Oran, aiming to raise annual production capacity from 90,000 to 135,000 vehicles by 2028, creating 1,000 new jobs, both direct and indirect. First trucks and buses of 'Sokun' to be launched next August

A representative from the assembly plant for heavy and light trucks, and 'Sokun' buses in Algeria announced on Monday the launch of the first batch for assembling trucks and buses of this brand during the upcoming month of August. The spokesperson for 'Sokun', a joint Algerian-Chinese company, stated that the first vehicle will roll out at the end of August 2026 from its assembly plant located in the Zana Al-Bayda activity area, in the Seryana district, Batna province, after the installation of the first production line, which has completed the necessary equipment, while waiting for the completion of two other production lines that have advanced significantly in studies. The plant is expected to produce 60,000 trucks and buses for passenger transport annually, while employing 450 people in the first phase, with the workforce expected to increase.

More than 21,000 registered investment projects, 54% of which have entered the implementation phase

The Algerian Agency for Investment Promotion has registered more than 21,000 investment projects as of March 31, with 54 percent of the declared projects having entered the actual implementation phase, while the number of projects that have entered production reached 1,364, according to the agency's director general, Omar Rakach. Rakach explained during his appearance on Algerian television that these projects, registered since the agency's activities began on November 1, 2022, are distributed between local and foreign investments and others in partnership with foreign operators, noting that 2,131 projects were registered during the first quarter of 2026, with an expectation of creating about 59,000 jobs.
