Belaribi: Skyscrapers are possible even in seismic areas

The Minister of Housing, Urban Planning and City, Mohamed Tarek Belaribi, confirmed that the construction of high and very high buildings in Algeria remains technically possible, even in areas with high seismic activity, provided that engineering and regulatory standards are respected. The minister explained that the study of increasing the number of floors is conducted on a project-by-project basis, according to criteria related to soil nature, seismic classification, wind loads, and safety requirements, emphasizing that vertical expansion cannot be adopted as a mechanical solution to compensate for the scarcity of real estate. He also revealed the preparation of a technical document regarding design and safety requirements for high and very high buildings, with the participation of experts from several sectors.
